James S. Roof, Partner and Senior Conusltant

Mr. Roof brings over 32 years of results proven experience to Denali Partners. With more than 20 years at the executive level, he is an accomplished senior manager whose extensive track record includes successful business strategy development and implementation, restructuring and change management, strategic selling and key account management as well as strategic partnership/alliance creation and renewal. Mr. Roof’s versatility has been demonstrated over a broad range of businesses and business models based on a strong multifunctional background and P&L/bottom-line orientation. He has held both domestic and international assignments.

Mr. Roof’s most recent engagement was as Vice President, Sales, Marketing & Business Development of the successful Research Triangle Park startup Cronos Integrated Microsystems. In two short years, he developed and facilitated a highly capable commercial organization that tripled sales of MEMS (Micro Electro-Mechanical Systems) products and services from a $4 million annual rate to one exceeding $17 million. The Company was acquired by JDSUniphase in April 2000 for $750 million. TL9000 certification and a wholesale systems conversion to Oracle were achieved during his tenure.

Prior to Cronos, Mr. Roof served as Vice President & Global Business Unit Director of Shipley (a division of Rohm & Haas Corporation) Company’s Microelectronic Materials Business. The business grew from $110 million to $250 million under his 10-year leadership.

Other senior positions include President & CEO, Aspect Systems Corporation (a high tech startup spun out of Monsanto in electronic materials) and Vice President of the Science Products and Specialty Chemical Divisions of Mallinckrodt Chemical (recently acquired by Tyco International). His broad functional background includes early career positions in marketing/profit center based business management, shipping/warehousing, purchasing and production & inventory control.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and lives in Raleigh, NC.
