John Herrel, Managing Partner

John Herrel is a founder and Managing Partner with Denali Partners,LLC bringing over 30 years of proven results oriented business management and IS/IT solutions experience. 

He possesses over 10 years of IS/IT experience selling, consulting and managing implementations of accounting/financial, manufacturing, ERP and customer relationship management solutions for a wide range of mid-market companies.  John founded BrightStar Solutions, Inc. in Pennsylvania and grew it into one of the leading Microsoft Great Plains value added resellers.  Great Plains recognized BrightStar Solutions as a Presidents Club Member, the top 5% of Partners in the world.  BrightStar Solutions also offered IS/IT solutions for the retail and healthcare industries.

Prior to his IS/IT career, Mr. Herrel worked for nearly 20 years in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries.  As Business Development Manager at Air Products, he identified, developed and led the multi-million dollar, 5 year business development program to commercialize a new Specialty Monomer business.  This included an international joint development effort to establish leading worldwide commercial and technology positions.  

As Senior Business Manager at Mallinckrodt, Mr. Herrel led the Specialty Organic Business Team.

He grew sales revenue 35%/year for 3 years and successfully managed a turnaround of the Specialty Organic business unit from a “money losing” to a highly profitable business by adding customers, adding products and markets, increasing prices and lowering costs.  His responsibilities included worldwide commercial development of new products and markets.  He also led the strategic business unit financial modeling efforts on personal computers to evaluate risk/reward business scenarios and capital investments.

Early in his career, Mr. Herrel held process engineering positions in the food and pharmaceutical industries, providing technical direction for chemical manufacturing, pharmaceutical and chemical synthesis, food processing and packaging operations.

John holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati and lives in Columbia, SC.
